If you are football fan and know your stuff, you may be tempted to get into football wagering, but before you dive right in, there are a few pointers that you should understand which makes football wagering slightly different to just picking the winning team.
The most used type of bet in the football wagering system is the spread bet, this is where the sportsbook will determine which team is the favorite and which is the underdog and the number of points a team has to win or lose by so that the bettor can receive a payout.
When you are researching the betting line, you will see one team with a negative sign beside the number and that signifies that they are the favorite. So for example, if the New York Jets has a -6.5 beside their name, that would mean that they are the favorite and that the opposition would need to lose by 7 or more points so that those who places a bet on the Jets could collect their winnings. In another case, if New York wins by only 6 points then the bettors going against the Jets would win their bets. So what this means is that it’s possible for your team to win, but with the points spread system you might not win the bet.
Of course there are other types of bets that you can place in the football wagering system which include over/under, futures, squares and totals, but the points spread is the one that you’ll encounter the most often and should be taken into consideration whenever you place your bets.
